Warwick Farm trainers told to evacuate
Trainers at Warwick Farm racecourse were among thousands of Sydney residents who were last night told to either evacuate or prepare to evacuate after NSW authorities warned a number of communities in the region they were in danger of suffering major flooding.
“Major flooding is occurring in south-west Sydney exceeding March 2021 levels with major flood warnings in place. It’s raining, with some areas hit harder than others and more rain on its way. Keep a serious eye on the warnings and forecasts,” the NSW Bureau of Meteorology tweeted shortly before 9pm.
With a number of reservoirs spilling and flood warnings issued for both the Nepean and Hawkesbury rivers, the Bureau of Meteorology shifted its forecast for when Sydney’s heaviest falls may land, predicting 120 millimetres to 150 millimetres today, up from 50 to 70 millimetres.
