WA border to remain shut

Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan announced the state’s border would not reopen on February 5 to the eastern states as previously planned. McGowan cited the growing Omicron outbreak in the east for the backflip and in order to give the WA community more time to receive a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The decision means buyers from outside WA will be unable to attend the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, which is scheduled for February 14 and 15. Last year’s Perth sale received interstate and international interest, with buyers such as Hong Kong’s Upper Bloodstock, Japan’s Big Red Farm, Belmont Bloodstock, Rathmore Bloodstock, Kiwi agents Bevan Smith and Paul Beamish all active, as were Adelaide trainers Will Clarken and Gordon Richards and Sydney-based Gerald Ryan, among others.
