VRC chair hits back at critics

Victoria Racing Club Chairman Amanda Elliott has hit back at criticism from vice-chairman
John O’Rourke and fellow board member Peter Fekete as her fight for re-election continues.
Elliott emailed VRC members after O’Rourke and Fekete told the Herald Sun they would
support Melissa Green and Dom Romanelli at the expense of incumbent members Elliott and
Katherine Bourke.

It has been reported that O’Rourke and Fekete object to a ‘succession
plan’ of Elliott standing down as chairman for current club CEO Neil Wilson in March next
year. “Firstly, it is very disappointing to have to respond to something that should always
be conducted in the appropriate confidential forum of the boardroom,” Elliott said in the
email statement. “To see the unprecedented action being taken by two board members via
the media is bitterly disappointing. It is not consistent with the values and expectations
of our club.

One must question the true motivations of endorsing candidates publicly,
whilst casting a shadow over future directions, governance, transparency and incumbent
board members at this important time.” Elliott, Bourke and Elisa Robinson have reached the
end of their three-year terms on the VRC Board and are up for re-election with members Green
and Romanelli plus Robert Ahchee, Tim Elliott, Glenn Findlay and Andrew Harrington.
