Victoria Derby winner dies after freak accident

Extra Brut, the 2018 Victoria Derby winner, has died in a freak accident in Hong Kong.

Extra Brut had to be euthanised after being injured in an accident involving a walking machine.

Extra Brut was with now-banned trainer Darren Weir when winning the Victoria Derby in 2018 and this year was transferred to the Ciaron Maher/David Eustace team.

He was sold to Hong Kong mid-year to join the stable of Frankie Lor.

“It is very sad, very unusual accident,” a shattered trainer Lor told the South China Morning Post after Extra Brut could not be saved.

Extra Brut had one start in Hong Kong, finishing third at Sha Tin over 1600m last month.

He had been scheduled to trial on Tuesday morning.

RIP Extra Brut.
