Verry Elleegant to be paid up for the Arc
Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner Verry Elleegant (Zed) will be entered up for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) on October 1 after connections revealed they will pay the late entry fee.
Following the closure of the original deadline in May, connections will now need to pay €120,000 (approx. AU$180,000) before a September 28 deadline for the mare to be able to contest Europe’s premier race. e news was announced yesterday on Verry Elleegant’s official Twitter page.
“After a meeting with the ownership group and the trainer Francis-Henri Graffard we are delighted to announce that we will be paying the late entry fee and giving our champion mare the chance to represent AUS/ NZ in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe & take on the world’s best.
” Verry Elleegant has had two runs so far since moving to France. After disappointing rst-up when last in the Prix Jean Romanet (Gr 1, 2000m), the seven-year old showed an improved effort next time out to nish third in the Prix Foy (Gr 2, 2400m).
