Slipper favourite’s impressive trial
Golden Slipper and Magic Millions Classic favourite Coolangatta was dominant in her trial win at Randwick on Tuesday.
The boom filly took on the older fillies in Tuesday’s trial, putting in a super-impressive performance with Tommy Berry on board.
Asked to very little by Berry, the two-year-old won her trial over 1050m in 1:04.27, with her last 600m in 0:34.37.
Par-owner Brae Sokolski told Racing.com earlier this week that the longer trial is to get her ready for her first-up assignment in the Group 3 B J McLachlan Stakes over 1200m at Doomben on Boxing Day, before she then progresses to the $2 million 2YO Classic over the same trip on the Gold Coast three weeks later.
The Written Tycoon filly, who was purchased as a yearling by Maher at the Gold Coast sales for $280,000, roared to the top of the Magic Millions market with a soft victory in the Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick in October.
On the back of that victory, Coolangatta ($2.20) is the only juvenile marked at single-figure odds in the Classic in Sportsbet’s market. She is also $4.50 for the Golden Slipper.
