Sale-topper to debut in Silver Slipper
Sale-topper to debut in Silver Slipper Hawkes Racing are set to give high-priced colt Magic (Snitzel) his debut in the Silver Slipper Stakes (Gr 2, 1100m) at Rosehill tomorrow.
Purchased by the team for $2.5 million at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, the two-year-old is a son of Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) out of the Group 1-winning stayer Rising Romance (Ekraar).
Shortly after purchasing the colt, Wayne Hawkes declared that he hoped he could be as good as Estijaab, a $1.7 million daughter of Snitzel who Hawkes and his father John and brother Michael prepared to win the Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) in 2018.
To add anticipation to his debut, Magic’s sister Yearning won last year’s Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m).
The colt will be ridden by William Pike and is currently a $34 chance for tomorrow’s contest after a jump-out at Flemington and a trial at Warwick Farm.
