RV set to reintroduce non-acceptance fees

Racing Victoria yesterday announced plans to reintroduce a non-acceptance fee from April 1, 2023, subject to a three-month evaluation period from December 1, 2022 to February 28, 2023. The change is designed to improve the nomination-to-acceptance ratio, which was only 31 per cent in Victoria for the 2021- 22 racing season compared to rates of 66 per cent to 75 per cent in other states.

Victoria is currently the only mainland state in Australia that offers free nominations and acceptances on all non black-type races. New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia all charge a non-acceptance fee, while South Australia charges a nomination fee. The April 2023 reintroduction may be deferred if the current Victorian nomination-to-acceptance rate of 31 per cent moves significantly towards the national average of 70 per cent during the three-month evaluation period.
