Randwick holding up despite rainfall

Almost 200 millimetres of rain has been recorded at Randwick and the surface, which was rated a Heavy 8 midweek, was downgraded to a 9 yesterday. Australian Turf Club officials will continue to monitor conditions and general manager racecourses, Nevesh Ramdhani, said any decision on the fate of the meeting is unlikely to be made before raceday.

“The way the track is positioned right now, it can handle more,” Ramdhani said. “There is rain forecast every day for the next week. The question is how much rain we are going to get on the day. The forecast is for some rain but it’s not suggesting it’s going to deluge like we have seen in the last few days.”
