The Race Club’s Saturday Racing December 4 Pakenham Cup Day Preview: Big Track Will Suit High ‘N’ Dry

Track:
Relatively calm day expected for Pakenham Cup day, suspect they are on a dry track and runners can make ground tempo dependent.

Race 4, 1000m

Marine One was excellent in his first two for this stable, the MV win was terrific, then tried in G1 company over 1200m he found it beyond him.
Freshened up for this and back to the short course, he’s going to need some luck getting clear but I suspect he will be charging after Unflinching (3.60) in the last 50m and go very close.

BEST BET: MARINE ONE (4.20) (win)

BEST VALUE

#3 HIGH ‘N’ DRY (8.50)

Race 1, 1600m

High ‘N’ Dry (in above tweet) was very good fresh in a good race at Bendigo before being out of his ground on a tricky day and never shirking the contest at Cranbourne.
He’s now up to this right trip and on a big track which looks ideal for him, the tempo should be strong and I think he represents some early value.

BEST VALUE: HIGH ‘N’ DRY (8.50) (win)

“It’s an open sort of field but I do think she’s the class runner in the race.”

Doomben (Saturday)

Rhapsody Rose (3.60)
Race 10, 1200m

Chris says:
Rhapsody Rose has drawn her typical barrier 14 but I think I’m just going to leave it up to Ryan Maloney how he rides her.
It’s an open sort of field but I do think she’s the class runner in the race.
Just got to hope she can find a nice even rhythm, get into a good spot on the best part of the track and I’m sure she’ll keep coming on and give us a good sight.
Really happy with how she’s come back after a short freshen up heading towards the Magic Millions on Guineas Day.

Chris’ Tip: Rhapsody Rose (3.60)

“Confident she can run a good race, she’s got a soft barrier, going to be awfully hard to beat.”

Doomben (Saturday)

Me Me Lagarde (4.80), Lime Soda (41.00, 10.00)
Race 10, 1200m

Toby says:
We’ve got two in race 10, Lime Soda and Me Me Lagarde (in below tweet).
Both fillies are going super, Me Me Lagarde is a really good filly.
Confident she can run a good race, she’s got a soft barrier, going to be awfully hard to beat.
The other filly Lime Soda comes off, when she returned at Ipswich the other day she won well.
This is a step up in grade but her work has been nothing short of brilliant and I think she can run super as well, so I give her a great place chance.
Me Me Largarde can win and Lime Soda can certainly run a place but will be right in the finish I feel.

Toby’s Tip: Me Me Lagarde (4.80) (win), Lime Soda (41.00, 10.00) (place)

“Might be worth sitting back and watching this one unfold as the Williams/Peters/Pike team look to make history and make a clean sweep of the feature Group 1’s.”

KINGSTON TOWN CLASSIC – Race 8 #7 Western Empire (1.40)
The new star of the west will go around prohibitive odds and rightly so.
The Iffraaj gelding has gone 6 in a line and is coming off a destructive Group 1 Railway win.
Steps up to Weight for Age for the first time but yet again seems like its only competitor will be the one they call ‘bad luck in running’.
Might be worth sitting back and watching this one unfold as the Williams/Peters/Pike team look to make history and make a clean sweep of the feature Group 1’s in the Railway (Western Empire), Winterbottom (Graceful Girl) and Kingston Town.

BEST – Race 7 #5 Sheza Chalmer (3.90)
This 4yo mare has been a victim of bad luck at its first two runs in.
She resumed in a super-hot race over an unsuitable trip against the likes of Wilchino and Triple Missile.
She was then a victim of the gate second up when rattling home late.
Gets a tick here 3rd up and another tick up to the 1400m.
Looks to be cherry ripe for this and from the better gate just needs to get a clear run to be super competitive.

VALUE – Race 4 #14 The Roan Ranger (19.00)
Doesn’t win out of turn but will relish the step up to 2200m and if they over-cook it in front, this one will give a big sight when flashing home late at double figure odds.

LAY – Race 4 #4 Reliable Star (2.25)
Has been conquered of late by its illustrious stablemate Pure Devotion.
There is no Pure Devotion here but gate 1 presents a potential situation of getting caught up behind some tired ones.
This looks to be an even affair and the 2.25 looks to be more about the Pike/Peters factor then a true reflection of its real price.
