Pateman coerced into admissions

During his hearing at the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on Wednesday, dual-license holder Steven Pateman said he felt “coerced” into admitting to illegalling administering cobalt to Sir Walter Scott (Galileo) before he raced at Coleraine in September 2017. The ten-year-old tested above the legal threshold of cobalt in a prerace urine sample and Pateman said he regretted his first interview with Racing Victoria stewards. “I felt I was coerced into saying it,” Pateman said.
“I felt like Dion (Vlliella, steward) wanted us to say that and it took an hour (57 minutes into the phone conversation) for us to say that and it’s not true. Words were being put into my mouth. I was trying to cooperate. When you know you’ve done nothing wrong, you want to cooperate.”
