Owners to decide Elleegant future

Verry Elleegant’s connections are to meet over the next 48 hours to decide her immediate future after almost certainly finishing her racing career with an unplaced run at G1 level in England.

Part-owner Ozzie Kheir toldΒ Racing.comΒ on Sunday the discussions were to be centred around a post-racing career and whether she should remain in the northern hemisphere to be served.

“We are going to get together in the next 48 hors and make a call. The likelihood is that it is the end of her racing career,” Kheir said.

“The discussions will probably be more around breeding. Do we get her into foal over there or bring her home?

“Whatever is decided, it will be exciting as the new chapter unfolds in her life.’’

Verry Elleegant failed to win in three runs in France before she tackled Saturday’s G1 British Champion Fillies and Mares Stakes (2406m) at Ascot, ultimately finishing ninth as a 14/1 chance behind the winner Emily Upjohn.

After settling wide and back, but with cover, her rider Mickael Barzalona pulled her into clear air but she failed to make any real ground and was beaten about six lengths on the line.

It was Verry Elleegant 42nd and most likely final run on Saturday with her career ending on 16 wins for prizemoney of close to $15 million, highlighted by her 2020 Caulfield Cup win and her 2021 Melbourne Cup victory.
