Oliver cleared of serious injury

Scans have cleared champion jockey Damien Oliver of any neck fractures following an incident in the barriers at Warrnambool on Thursday.

Oliver was taken from the race course in an ambulance following the incident before the last where the Danny O’Brien-trained Ethekwini got down in the barriers, resulting in her being a late scratching from the race.

The Victorian Jockeys’ Association confirmed Oliver’s positive news on Friday morning.

“Good news from Warrnambool hospital is that scans on Damien Oliver’s neck have returned clear of any fracture,” the VJA said.

It was a tough day for Oliver, who flew to Warrnambool by helicopter, with a strong book of rides for Victorian breeding juggernaut Rosemont.

Unfortunately for connections he couldn’t return to the winner’s stall, after Ethekwini had been declared by O’Brien as his best on the card.
