Moody officially applies for his Licence

Peter Moody has officially reapplied for his training licence and has plans to take over 35 to 40 boxes at Pakenham if his application is approved by Racing Victoria.

It means Moody is just one step away from returning to training. RV’s licensing panel will need to review his application before deciding whether to give him the green light.

However, Racing.com understands that a decision by the panel is not imminent and is unlikely to be made in February.

Pakenham Racing Club ratified Moody’s application to train from the facility last week, paving the way for him to submit his paperwork to RV.

Moody has not trained for the past four years after surrendering his licence following a drawn-out cobalt case which saw him suspended for six months.

He flagged in New Zealand last month that he intended to return to the training ranks this year, but at that stage had not made his application official.

Pakenham doesn’t currently have any stables available for lease, meaning Moody would have to rent boxes from his fellow trainers.

Moody confirmed he had already sourced enough for his team but declined to reveal whose boxes he would be using.

Pakenham Racing Club boss Blair Ogders welcomed Moody’s decision to train out of Pakenham.

“He submitted his application to train from Pakenham to the club, which was ratified at a board meeting held last week,” Ogders said.

“So it’s pending approval from Racing Victoria. If he gets that approval then he will certainly be an approved trainer at Pakenham.

“To have a trainer of Peter’s ilk and standard choose Pakenham as his preferred training base is a real boost for the club and its focus on attracting high-quality trainers.

“We can’t wait for him to pick up his first winner on course.”
