Magic catalogue for January sale
The siblings of spring stars Imperatriz, Think About It, Griff and Attrition headline an enviable catalogue for the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, which was released on Sunday.
More than 1450 yearlings have been catalogued across Book 1 and Book 2 for the iconic January sale, which is the traditional launch of Australia’s bloodstock sales season.
Lot 477, offered on account of Bhima Thoroughbreds, is the Capitalist half-brother to Te Akau’s champion sprinter Imperatriz, who claimed an third straight Group 1 in winning Saturday’s Darley Champions Sprint at Flemington.
Everest winner Think About It’s half-brother by Wootten Bassett is Lot 301 and will be offered by famed Tasmanian nursery Grenville Stud.
Amarina Farm will offer Lot 521, a North Pacific half-brother to Caulfield Guineas hero Griff, while Lot 74 – a son of Churchill that is a full-brother to Toorak Handicap winner Attrition – will spearhead Mill Park Stud’s draft.
In total, the siblings of 33 Group 1 winners will go under the hammer, with full relations to In Secret and Coolangatta, Golden Sixty’s half-sister, Sunlight’s three-quarter brother and Mazu’s three-quarter sister among the other highlights.
The first or second foals of star mares Arcadia Queen, Avantage, English and Loving Gaby feature in the catalogue, as do the maiden yearling progeny of 26 first-season sires, including Darley’s champion sprinter Bivouac, Kia Ora’s Golden Slipper winner Farnan and Yulong’s Blue Diamond winner Tagaloa.
Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said the sale should be the first stop for buyers dreaming of a Group 1 win.
“The success of graduates of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale is second to none,” Bowditch said.
“If you want to buy a Group 1 winner you must be at the Gold Coast in January.
“With recent graduates, including genuine stars Alligator Blood, Espiona, Golden Sixty, Imperatriz, In Secret, Militarize and Ozzmosis, you can see why the sale is held in the highest of regards.
