Longchamp or retirement for Elleegant?

Saturday’s Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) at Randwick could be the final time that Verry Elleegant (Zed) graces an Australian racetrack, whether she heads to October’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) or not, with part-owner Ozzie Kheir indicating that the breeding barn could beckon if she does not run up to her very best this weekend.

The 11- time Group 1 winner is coming off a second in the Ranvet Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) to Montefilia (Kermadec) but Kheir believes she can bounce back on Saturday and cement her claims for a French raid. “She has to stand up again for us to make a call on the Arc,’’ Kheir told Racing.com.
“The reality is that if she doesn’t run to her best on Saturday then that probably won’t happen and then we’d have to decide whether to go on with her. (But) I do think she will be very hard to beat.”
