Kangaroo Island races postponed
The first day of the popular Kangaroo Island Cup carnival has been postponed after just two races. Claudia Lions suffered her fall in the first race, which caused a delay to proceedings, and after the second race was run riders raised concern with another section of the track.
After an inspection with the stewards, the surface was deemed unsafe to continue racing. “A couple of jockeys expressed concerns about the track after race two, with a section of the track about the 750 metres,” Racing SA steward Michael Zarb told Racing.com.
“It was very chopped up and it was a joint decision between jockeys and stewards that we didn’t feel the track was safe. You were basically going from a Good 4 track to a Soft 6 track only in a couple of small patches and there was some moisture in that spot and it did get chopped out quite badly.
” Track inspections will now take place to decide whether the Kangaroo Island Cup day can go ahead tomorrow.
