Jockey Comments: Golden Slipper
Fireburn (First): “I was very happy early. They went along for a furlong and I just couldn’t hold a spot. I was trying to keep Brett (Prebble) out but I was just going to be burning, so I was just happy to let her come back and let him hopefully crash tackle a few of them for me. Once we got out of the chute there was a real shuffle up and it felt like the speed came out of the race and I almost sold out and lost plenty of momentum and ended up back second last. From the 500 metres onwards, I just thought ‘I can’t win the race, I’m just gonna get a couple and earn some prizemoney’. Once I straightened up and got balanced and started to pick them off one-by-one, I got to the 200 metres thinking ‘This thing is going to win’. I knew I was home at the furlong, I just had to get out.” – Brenton Avdulla.
Best Of Bordeaux (Second): “Very frustrating yet very proud. He’s done a wonderful job this preparation. He’s going to run 1400m this horse when he grows into himself. Going to be a lovely 3YO. Must say congratulations to Kacy Fogden. She’s done a brilliant job with this horse.” – Sam Clipperton.
Coolangatta (Third): “Really sad. She tried her heart out. Got into a beautiful spot. Let down but the ground got her. A terrific filly and really proud of her.” – James McDonald.
Daumier (Fourth): “A little trier. Ran really well. Did a good job to run fourth.” – Mark Zahra.
Ojai (Fifth): “We found ourselves on the fence, for her to run fifth in the race was excellent.” – Regan Bayliss.
Jacquinot (Sixth): “Had a lovely run in transit. Didn’t appreciate that Heavy track.” – Hugh Bowman.

Sejardan (Ninth): “Just got smashed.” – Jason Collett.
Russian Conquest (10th): “The ground hurt her.” – Tommy Berry.
Revolutionary Miss (11th): “Ran a good race. Was posted wide, so came back to get some cover. Didn’t have a lot of room. She ran a great race.” – Kerrin McEvoy.
Seven Veils (12th): “Just had to do that little bit of work to find the spot from the gate. It softened us late. Still immature but she will make a lovely filly.” – Josh Parr.
