Jockey Billy Egan banned for striking horse in barriers

Stewards at Sale handed Billy Egan a two-week ban after the rider struck his mount Wine Oโ€™Clock (Roc De Cambes) several times while in the barrier during racing on Wednesday. Egan, who was unable to offer an explanation, struck the Patrick Payne-trained gelding once with his fist and four times with an open hand after he became restless before the start of the 1419-metre maiden. Stewards took into account his guilty plea and past record when sidlining him for 14 meetings, with his suspension commencing at midnight on Sunday
