Infamous Group 1 winner Azkadellia sells for $615,000 at Echuca Horse Sale

Azkadellia (Shinko King), the controversial Group 1-winning mare whose ownership
bona fides saw her trainer Ciaron Maher sidelined for six months, was purchased by
Sheamus Mills Bloodstock for $615,000 at a horse sale in northern Victoria yesterday.

The well-publicised saga involving the eight-year-old mare, who had an embargo
preventing her from racing placed on her by Racing Victoria stewards in 2016, fetched the
six-figure sum at the Echuca Horse Sale despite little awareness that she would be auctioned.
Offered under Victoria’s Livestock and Agistment Act, a reserve of $300,000 was
placed on Azkadellia and bidding quickly went to $575,000, before finally reaching the
$615,000 mark after a flurry of $5,000 and $10,000 bids.

It is believed that at least two major Hunter Valley studs were also bidding on the Shinko
King (Fairy King) mare.
