Gollan keen on Ingear
Tony Gollan believes he has found the right trip for talented mare Ingear (Dissident), who lines up in the 1200-metre Benchmark 72 at Eagle Farm today. Last campaign, Gollan started Ingear four times in races from 1300 metres to a mile and came up empty-handed on each occasion. Rather than test the four-year-old’s stamina reserves this preparation, Gollan is content to keep Ingear in her comfort zone in short-course sprints.
“I tried to get her out to 1300 metres and longer races but there’s probably no need to go further than 1200 metres with her,” Gollan said. “The 1200 metres is her right distance at the moment and this race sets up really well for her.” Ingear made a successful return to racing in a 1000-metre contest at Eagle Farm on January 21. “The step up from 1000 metres is positive and she’s a lovely filly with a good action,” Gollan added. “When she won first-up she was the only horse to lead and win that day and she was also the only one to win on the inside part of the track.”
