Four of the runners in tomorrow’s Blue Diamond Stakes under cloud
Four of the runners in tomorrow’s Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) will require further testing before being allowed to take their chance in Melbourne’s premier juvenile race. Racing Victoria vets inspected all 16 two-year-olds ahead of the Caulfield contest yesterday with Lofty Strike (Snitzel) and Kiki Express (Sepoy) both showing signs of lameness, the former in the off-foreleg and the latter in her nearside foreleg.
The well supported Sebonack (Capitalist) had swelling in his right fetlock early yesterday, but Hawkes Racing later presented a satisfactory ultrasound and x-ray report. Sebonack will be re-examined as a precaution. The Peter Moody-trained Rampant Lion (Frankel) shifted a shoe on his near-fore on Wednesday night before being reshod yesterday morning and the colt will also undergo a re-inspection today.
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained Jacquinot (Rubick) remains favourite with TAB at $5 ahead of the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Revolutionary Miss (Russian Revolution) at $6. Sebonack sits alone on the third line at $7 with Lofty Strike, the one-time second favourite, drifting to the fourth line at $7.50. Rampant Lion is a $19 chance with Kiki Express an outsider at $34.
