Elleegant share sells privately

A 12.5 per cent share in 11-time Group 1 winner Verry Elleegant has belatedly been sold, having hours earlier being passed in online.

The one-eighth share in the 2021 Melbourne Cup winner was offered on the online auction platform Gavelhouse by Auckland-based businessman Tim Barry, who had decided to sell out of the retired race mare for personal reasons.

With $NZ$350,000 (A$322,000) falling short of the reserve, it suggested Verry Elleegant is valued at around $3 million as a minimum.

Gavelhouse provided an update later on Tuesday that the stake in Verry Elleegant had been privately sold.

Verry Elleegant is currently in Europe after she finished her racing days with four underwhelming runs in France and England.

She is expected to be served by one of Europe’s leading stallions, Sea The Stars, in February, before a decision is made on whether she returns home or foals down and is served again next year before her return.
