Earthquakes hit Hunter Valley
Three earthquakes struck the Hunter Valley towns of Muswellbrook and Denman yesterday, with the strongest a 4.4 magnitude quake south west of the small Hunter Valley community just after 4.30pm.
A 3.8 magnitude quake was felt five kilometres south of the Muswellbrook town centre before an aftershock quake at Denman hit at 6.11pm. Denman Hotel employee Sharon Taylor said the quakes were ‘frightening’. “There was the first one at 3.30pm, then the second one was not as bad at 4.30pm. It shook the building and then at 25 to five, there was another one,” Taylor told News Limited. “People could feel it outside. The last one wasn’t as bad but it’s all frightening with drought season and the fires.
