Darren Weir gets trial date
Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Darren Weir will face trial later this year after a video link directions hearing in the County Court on Friday morning set a date for the high-profile case to be heard.
Weir and his co-accused, Jarrod McLean and Tyson Kermond, are due to front the Ballarat County Court on October 31, which ironically is Melbourne Cup eve, on charges relating to animal cruelty and conspiring to cheat.
It’s understood lawyers for the three defendants are seeking a severance of some of the charges so they can be heard separately.
The trial is expected to last around three weeks.
