Jockey Nikita Beriman has confirmed she will miss the spring carnival and is sidelined indefinitely due to a recurring hip injury.
The Group 1-winning jockey has battled hip concerns for the past few years and the injury again flared up recently, with Beriman unable to ride since the end of July.
“I’m really trying to stay positive but obviously it’s painful and very frustrating,” Beriman said.
“I’m so thankful for all the support that I’ve received from people sending encouraging messages.
“I will reassess my riding career when I see how I am in the next month or two.”
It’s a major blow for the jockey who was in winning form over the autumn and winter months and was set for some big chances riding light this spring, including Self Sense in the Caulfield Cup.
Earlier this year the 33-year-old had said she was in the fittest condition of her career, with key rides for the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable including on Dubious in the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup as well as victories at Caulfield for the stable on Bam’s On Fire and Naantali.
