Ben Melham suffers a broken shoulder and collarbone

Recent in form jockey Ben Melham sustained a broken shoulder and collarbone at Morphettville yesterday. Melham, who has ridden 12 winners and six placings from 37 rides since returning from a suspension last month, fell from Set The Sails who had just finished third in the Morphettville Guineas.

Barend Vorster, who rode the eighth-placed Water Into Wine, also fell from his mount after the line in the incident but was unscathed. Racing SA steward Matt Santoro stated after the race that Melham had sustained a suspected left shoulder or collarbone injury and would receive further medical attention, with subsequent scans confirming the injuries sustained, which Melham announced via Twitter.
