American underbidder John Stewart has claimed it was ‘mission accomplished’ despite failing to land Winx’s yearling

American thoroughbred identity John Stewart has claimed it was ‘mission accomplished’ despite failing to land the winning bid on Winx’s yearling filly on Monday afternoon.

Stewart made good on his claim that he was prepared to pay $9 million to secure the daughter of Pierro, with bidding quickly escalating between him and Winx’s part-owner Debbie Kepitis.

But in the end, it was the Aussie who won, with the filly knocked down for $10m. It’s a world record for a yearling filly.

While defeated, Stewart was also optimistic about the future for the champion’s daughter.

“Mission accomplished,” Stewart said on social media platform X.

“I said before that my goal was for the filly to stay in Australia. Congratulations to (Debbie) and everyone in Australia!

“The Winx filly is right where she belongs. I hope I played a small part in discouraging some of the international players out of the auction.

“And I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. I am already looking to my next pick.”
