All-Star Mile wildcards announced
Veteran Black Heart Bart has been given another chance to chase a big payday in the twilight of his career after receiving one of the final wildcard spots for the $5m All-Star Mile.
Racing Victoria’s executive general manager of racing Greg Carpenter announced on Monday morning that wildcard spots had been issued to Fierce Impact, Superstorm and Black Heart Bart with Fifty Stars accepting, rather than forfeiting, their place in the field despite their expected participation in this Saturday’s Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m).
Black Heart Bart’s trainer Lindsey Smith last week told Racing.com that he was just eager to see the nine-year-old gelding win another race this campaign in swerving last Saturday’s Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m).
However, Black Heart Bart will race for $5 million for just the second time in his career after being granted wildcard entry into the field.
“Black Heart Bart’s affinity with Caulfield is extraordinary, his comeback win in the Underwood Stakes was one of the stories of the spring racing carnival and despite coming towards the end of his racing career, he has proven time and again that he can be competitive at the highest level,” Carpenter said.
