Media Release 22 August 2022
Alligator Blood (AB) has been cleared to run in Victoria. This paves the way for AB to run in all Australian states and overseas.
AN will be nominated this morning for G1 Memsies. Cox Plate grand final is the target.
Frank De Rango, from Victoria Racing Stewards, confirmed by text this morning that AB was cleared to run. 🐊🩸🆎🚀🚀🚀🚀
The Ezybonds (No 1) Syndicate has officially relinquished 100% ownership and management of AB for an undisclosed sum.
Gerry Harvey has purchased a 60% interest in AB with Robyn and Jeff Simpson retaining the balance of 40%.
Selling AB was one of the the most emotional and toughest decisions I have ever made in a long time.
In the end, my family and I are extremely grateful and humbled that Gerry Harvey has saved AB’s Australian racing career in the interests of racing. As AB’s breeder, Gerry has always had a soft spot for AB and supported Adrian Bott’s comments when he said, “No good having a Ferrari locked up in the garage”.
AB means everything to me and my family. AB was a once in a life time dream come true. He will always be in our hearts, as he flys us to the moon whenever Frank Sinatra is heard around the stables. It has never been about the money. The Ezybonds (No 1) Syndicate declined a $3.2 million offer for AB some years ago. We simply loved AB too much and just wanted to see him race. AB proved the doubters wrong as he swept to victory in the G1 2022 Stradbroke after back surgery and an extended period of rehabilitation.
In loving memory of my wife Joy, and in the interests of AB’s loyal Blood Supporters, this sale (although forced upon me) was the best possible outcome for AB and his racing career. AB will now be given the chance to test the best with Damien Oliver aboard. Win or lose, it doesn’t matter. What matters is AB’s incredible love of racing and his will power to “never give up”. It was that fighting spirit that also resonated with Joy as she battled cancer and excruciating pain everyday.
AB is now truely a horse for the people. AB belongs to the people. He is public property…..No 1. AB is the peoples’ horse in the custody of Gerry Harvey, Uncle Jeff, Aunty Robyn, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. I’m thrilled that my family and I will be able to enjoy AB’s racing career with tens of thousands of supporters from all around the globe.
I will still be AB’s voice, no matter what.
Whilst I have lost this initial battle with the Racing Victoria Stewards, you can rest assured that I will not lose the war.
My legal horse has now bolted.
Being forced to sell AB and remove his famous racing colours, on the pretext of integrity issues, was nothing short of bureaucratic power gone mad. The audacity of Racing Victoria Stewards banning AB without any rules of racing being breached is reprehensible. Their failure to approve my son, Matthew Endresz and Living Legends as the new owners of AB was unconscionable whilst exposing an unhealthy discriminatory attitude when assessing new participants.
These ill founded decisions have only strengthened my resolve to pursue significant damages for the lost opportunity in racing AB under my colours. In addition, it will allow the legal system to fully equip decision makers with new skills, to ensure that they think twice before decimating valuable assets and livelihoods of the very people who ultimately contribute to their continuing roles as decision makers. Hiding behind unilateral discretionary decisions is no longer a viable option. It’s time to level the playing field where the integrity of contractual agreements between all participants is just as important as the integrity of racing itself.
As Josh Fleming said when AB hit the front in the G1 2022 Stradbroke Handicap, “Here comes the Blood though! “
