80 remain in Melbourne Cup

Defending Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner Cross Counter (Teofilo) headlines
80 first acceptors for this year’s $8 million Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) which includes
18 other internationally trained horses. First acceptances for the race at Flemington on
November 5 closed yesterday, with Cross Counter and his Charlie Appleby-trained
stablemate Ispolini (Dubawi) among the acceptors while champion Irish trainer Aidan
O’Brien has three horses still entered; Hunting Horn (Camelot), Il Paradiso (Galileo) and
Magic Wand (Galileo). The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Just Thinkin’ (So You
Think) is the only southern hemisphere three year-old entered.
