A field of 11 runners, headed by Herbert Power (Gr 2, 2400m) runner-up Prince of Arran
(Shirocco), are set to contest the Geelong Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) tomorrow. Despite having drawn
the outside barrier, the Charlie Fellowes trained Melbourne Cup hopeful is the $3.40
favourite with Steel Prince (Nathaniel), who was scratched at the barriers in the Herbert
Power, next in the market at $4.80. Also set to line up in the race is Godolphin’s Ebor Handicap (1m5f ) runner-up Red Galileo (Galileo), team Hawkes’ Bart Cummings (Gr
3, 2500m) runner-up Supernova (Intello) and last year’s Sandown Classic (Gr 2, 2400m)
runner-up Dal Harraild (Champs Elysees from the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace
stable. The winner of the Geelong Cup is eligible for a weight penalty for the $8 million
Melbourne Cup and the only horse in the field who has secured a start in the staying feature
is Steel Prince who earned himself a ballot exemption by winning The Andrew Ramsden
(Listed, 2800m) in May
