$1.6 million purchase wins first start
The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Grand Admiral (Snitzel) kicked off his career with an eye catching win in a 1200 metre maiden at Echuca. The three-year-old colt raced greenly on his first trip to the races, missing the start by a length and taking some strong riding by Linda Meech to pick up around the final bend but the short priced favourite’s class prevailed as he kicked away to win by a length.
“He’s got a bit to learn but he’s a big strong colt, he’s got a great attitude and he was under pressure the whole way so he did a good job to win,” Meech told Racing.com after the race. Out of the stakes-placed mare Admirelle (General Nediym), Grand Admiral is a brother to Newgate-based stallion Sizzling and was purchased for $1.6 million at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in a partnership between Phoenix Thoroughbreds, Aquis Farm, Yulong Investments and Ciaron Maher.
